STATEMENT OF INTENT TO SEEK ELECTION

Our schools are
the foundation of
our community.

Dear Residents of SYVUHSD,

I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Santa Ynez High School board seat for Trustee District 5. As a passionate advocate for education and community engagement, I believe it is crucial to ensure integrity and transparency in the board’s decision-making processes.

Our district deserves leadership that prioritizes the needs of students, educators, and parents above all else. As a candidate, I am committed to fostering an environment of openness and accountability, where every voice is heard and every concern is addressed with diligence, kindness and respect.

Together, we can work toward a brighter future for our schools and our community. I humbly ask for your support as we embark on this journey together.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Joshua A. Jones

My Career and Experience

Connection is the key

Early in my career, I discovered that I am skilled at navigating challenging conversations and stressful situations with the aim of finding solutions that satisfy all stakeholders. I solve problems for people and it makes me truly happy to contribute to the success of others.

I’ve had the honor of working for two large organizations as a software trainer and event consultant in the virtual or online events industry: Zoom Video Communications and Citrix Online.

In 2019, I left Zoom to relaunch my first company, The WebiNerd LLC (originally founded in 2014 – https://thewebinerd.com). In response to the COVID 19 lockdowns, this one-person organization saw exceptional growth in demand for services and personnel, adding ten employees and contractors and maintaining steady employment for our team during challenging times.

In 2022, I founded Xenvent Technologies LLC, a technology startup doing business as EventSpace (https://eventspace.com). EventSpace is a virtual event management platform designed to make it easy for our users to host engaging, community building online events.

My experience working with technology and people has taught me the value of listening; not just to respond, but to identify and triage needs and pain points and to remain calm and steady under pressure. I’ve learned that no one wins if we can’t connect and share honestly about our expectations and desired outcomes. Connecting meaningfully and empathetically with others is one of my greatest strengths.

I’m a dad: my most essential qualification

I’m honored to be dad to an amazing teenage daughter who starts 9th grade in the Fall of 2024. When I spoke to her about running for the school board, it was her encouragement that made the decision an easy and confident yes.

My close relationship with her offers me unique insight into the challenges, unmet needs, and frustrations felt by today’s teens along with their fascinations, hopes, and expectations. We’ve lived together through the turbulence of remote learning and COVID-19 requirements. We’ve witnessed the lasting effects on our schools and students.

Now, more than ever, all of our students need our loving support and determined action to do more to fill the gaps, improve attendance by being present, and nurture a sense that everyone belongs and has a place at our high school.

Volunteerism:
Service above self

I’m proud to regularly volunteer for and participate in the following community services and organizations:

Los Olivos Rotary: Board Member, ’21-Present

AYSO Region 180, SYV: Coach & Referee

People Helping People Food Delivery Program

St. Marks in the Valley Choir

Show your support! It will only take a minute.
